The National Exercise Referral Scheme (NERS) is a Public Health Wales (PHW) funded scheme and is a health intervention programme incorporating physical activity and behavioral change techniques to support clients to make lifestyle changes to improve their health and well-being.
The principal aims of the Scheme:
• To offer a high quality National Exercise Referral Scheme across Wales
• To increase the long term adherence of clients to physical activity
• To improve the physical and mental health of clients
• To determine the effectiveness of the intervention in increasing clients’ activity levels and improving their health
The Scheme targets people aged 16 and over with, or at risk of developing, a chronic condition.
The NERS programme is delivered within leisure centres and you are able to choose to attend the centre which is most convenient to you.
If you believe that you could benefit from the NERS scheme, please speak to the Practice Nurse or GP. They will know if you fit the criteria and also be able to arrange your referral to the programme.
