Your local pharmacist can also help and give advice on medication or minor illnesses. You can find the details of your local pharmacies, dentists, minor injury units etc on the NHS 111 Website.
If you feel you need urgent medical advice that cannot wait until the practice is next open, but feel it is not life threatening, please call 111 and you’ll be advised accordingly.
Minor ailments such as coughs and colds can be treated at home without the need to see a GP. A pharmacist can advise you on the best medicine to take and you can buy cough and cold medicines from pharmacies or supermarkets.
You can:
- ease aches or lower a temperature with painkillers like paracetamol or ibuprofen
- relieve a blocked nose with decongestant sprays or tablets
You should begin to feel better in about 1 to 2 weeks.
If you have a medical emergency, a critical or life threatening problem call 999 or go straight to A&E.

- Difficulty in breathing
- A suspected heart attack
- Heavy blood loss
- Serious injury
- Severe burns
